Since 1991, Matta Fair is held annually in both Penang and Kuala Lumpur. It is reported that each year the fair is crowded with more than 100 thousand visitors from all over Malaysia. This year, as usual, the Matta fair for northern Malaysia is held in Pisa, Penang and again is flooded with many visitors. However, the is not as enormous as PC fair.
Except the exhibition differences, another difference between PC fair and Matta fair is that Matta fair required 2 ringgit Malaysia as entry fee and PC fair don’t. Honestly I don’t really understand why entry fee is needed, even they give some entry gifts. Actually, I feel the visitors are paying to buy the gifts.
This year the spot light of the fair is focus on the promoting tourism in Malaysia, as most of the exhibition are related to Malaysia tourism spots like Pahang, Sabah, Terengganu and Pulau Langkawi. Though, there are still some of them offer package for oversea travelling to European countries and eastern Asian countries like Japan, Korea and Taiwan.
For a travel fair, exhibitions about travel related information is quite rational and reasonable, but there are some of them, which are particularly ‘outstanding’. Frankly, I really can’t think of a reason for a network company to take part in exhibition of a travel fair. There are also other non-travel-related companies joining the fair, but at least , grudgingly, they still have something to do with travel. For instance: banks, which have their promoters there to ‘exalt’ their credit card, since it might be useful especially for oversea countries with different currency. In short, I would say that people really won’t miss the chance to make money!
