Anime scale model mostly relates to those toys or models from animation stories, which commonly are characters appear in the corresponding shows. Sometimes, they can be fiction humans, animals, supernatural beings, aliens or even robots. However, it seems that robots or those often known as mecha (Japanese abbreviation for English word mechanical) are most well-known, especially in certain Asian countries like Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
Mecha is not only available in Japanese animation story but also in certain popular western movie like Star Wars. But somehow, in above said countries, it seems like there is a trend that most people interested of collect Gundam, a giant war robot in Gundam Series animation shows. These mecha are depicted in height of 15-20m, which causes their models mostly produced in scale of 1:100 and 1:144. The other bigger scale is 1:72, but of cause, it is more expensive in price.
There many manufacturers involve in production of scale models, which include Bandai, Tamiya, Fujimi Model, Hasegawa and HW Japan. Out of these manufacturers, the one which famous for producing Gundam are Bandai and HW Japan. However, from history records, Bandai seems to dominate and own great influence in this field since 80’s in 20th century. The modern Gundam Kits are produced for color molding and snap-fit construction, which allows collectors enjoy the fun of DIY model construction, as if they themselves are building a real robots.
